Twenty-Five Years Later, Reflections of 9/11
Similar to where one might have been when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred, or when JFK was shot, or when the Challenger blew up after takeoff, I vividly recall the events of 9/
Trying to understand discordant perspectives within Christian faith … and other musings.
I’m an upper-midwestern fellow who’s now in the “Buick stage” of life given my current abilities in securing senior discounts.
This blog is a reflection of questioning my Christian faith because of “competing perspectives” – whether Calvinistic, Arminian or Open Theistic. I’m honestly baffled at the disparity of doctrines and beliefs considering everyone works from the same “source material” aka the Bible. That which I thought I knew and believed – well – I’m not so sure anymore.
On a more personal note, in no specific order, things that make life more enjoyable include strong coffee in the morning, making sawdust in the garage, noodling around on a bass, playing online chess, my better “7/8ths” (wife of 48 years), three great kids, rolling around on the floor with grandchildren, charcoal grilling anytime of the year, growing fresh tomatoes, a good orthopedic doctor and an occasional IPA.
Truly, I’m delighted you’re here. Please poke around and feel free to drop any comments or questions. My end goal is to seek the truth and I value the insight and input of those willing to engage.

I’ve known Bob since he began blogging. I’m saddened that we disagree on matters of Christian faith. Nevertheless, I respect Bob because he really listens and tries to understand opposing arguments. He asks insightful questions for clarification. And his responses … or his conclusions, though different from mine, are never demeaning as to my perspective. Bob’s a straight shooter. He’ll tell you why he disagrees and how he’s come to a different conclusion. I respect that.
Bob is a pretty good writer. At least he spell checks posts before he publishes them! But Bob is an even better thinker. First, though, Bob pulls out his ‘trusty Webster dictionary’ to at least ensure that he understands word definitions before starting to formulate his opinions. Who does that? I’m sympathetic to Bob’s position – feeling on the outside of a Christian faith he embraced for 40 years and I wish him well in his search for the truth.
Having played many rounds of golf with Bob, I can tell you that Bob plays the ball as it lies. He plays fair. And he argues fairly without drama or complaint. Bob isn’t afraid to admit he doesn’t have a perfectly formulated thought or response. In fact, it’s refreshing that someone admits to not having a ready answer on a given point. But Bob seems energized when having to look up stuff he doesn’t understand much in the same way that he gets a energized when he thinks he can pull off a tricky shot to put the ball on the green. I read Bob’s posts because he writes about his struggles with various Christian tenants in search of the truth.
